We have never had a large donation from a philanthropist so are able to comment without having loyalties. It seems so foolish to clamp down on one of the few remaining areas of funding for a lot of charities - what has happended to the big society, should wealthy people be deterred from giving much needed funds! One of HAD's patrons was on channel 4 news last ight rightly saying that no-one is going to give away thousands of pounds in order to save a few pounds in tax. Instead of creating a blanket tax on all large donations it would be better to improve the tracking of anyone using the apparent loophole for their own gain. It is not the fault of the majority of hard working charities or the genuine philanthropists that some donations are used as tax dodges.
